Road Safety

We all know how many children there are in Parklands and how they love to play out so please everyone - SLOW DOWN!!! If you see someone driving too fast please politely remind them about kids in the road and ask them to slow down and if you don't get a positive response then please report it to the police. The Police have recently increased patrols in Parklands and have taken action against anti-social drivers which will hopefully have a positive effect. At our request the Highways Dept has also replaced the yellow speed/driving warning signs for summer.

Litter

We are investigating the possibility of recycling bins for cans and plastic bottles. We will also be organising a skip and clean up day in the near future. In the meantime please use the bins provided and avoid dropping litter. If you see someone dropping litter become a 'have a go hero' and ask them to pick it up. Clearing up litter costs the council a fortune that could be better spent providing services to us residents so let's keep our Parklands clean and tidy.

Playground

The level of littering in the playground is a concern especially when the mowers cut up drinks cans hidden in the grass leaving sharp slivers of metal. The playground belongs to all of us as residents of Parklands so we all have a responsibility to help look after it, please don't hesitate to speak to people abusing the play area. If you do not get a satisfactory response then call 0845 6070999 because we need the play area to be a zero-tolerance area for anti-social behaviour.

Dog Mess

Apart from being unpleasant and inconvenient dog mess is a serious health issue for pedestrians, especially children and a few selfish dog owners are putting the rest of us at risk. Dog owners who don't clean up after their dog can be fined up to £5000.00 if prosecuted! If your children walk your dog please make sure they are carrying bags to clear up after your dog. If you see someone not clearing up after their dog please politely ask them to. If that fails then contact WDC Dog warden to report it on 01323 443555.

Street Lights

Probably the most contentious issue recently has been the decision by Maresfield Parish Council to turn off the Parklands street lights between midnight and 06.00. Two residents of Parklands (Sharon and Mrs Scott) raised a petiton which was signed by most people living in the estate and the Parklands Residents Association committee held a public meeting to discuss the problem. The meeting was attended by Mr Ken Ogden the Chairman of Maresfield Parish Council (MPC) and after being presented with the petition he agreed to ask the MPC to reverse the decision. Mr Ogden also apologised on behalf of MPC for the inadequate consultation of Parklands residents before the decision to turn off the street lights was made. The MPC agreed to turn the lights back on and this has been actioned.

Your Issues

If you have any issues you would like addressed please feel free to attend one of our monthly meetings, see the home page for dates, or email the committee.
